What are the types of precision metal stamping operations? Today, we will share with you about the stamping processes of progressive die stamping, transfer die stamping, four slider stamping, and precision stamping
Progressive Die Stamping
Progressive die stamping uses a series of stamping stations, and the metal coil is fed into a reciprocating stamping machine with a progressive stamping die. The mold moves with the press, and when the press moves downwards, the mold closes to stamp the metal and form the part. When the press moves upwards, the metal moves along the next workstation.
These movements must be accurately aligned as the parts are still connected to the metal strip. The final workstation separates the newly manufactured components from other parts of the metal. Progressive die stamping is an ideal choice for long-term operation, as the mold can be used for a long time without damage, and this process is highly repeatable.
Each step in the process performs different cutting, bending, or stamping operations on the metal, gradually reaching the desired final product shape and design, improving efficiency and reducing waste.
Transfer mold stamping
Transfer mold stamping is similar to progressive mold stamping, but the parts are separated from metal tripping in the early stage of processing and transferred from one stamping station to the next through another mechanical transportation system (such as a conveyor belt). This process is usually used for processing relatively large parts, and the demand is transferred to different press machines for processing.
Four slider stamping
Four slider stamping, also known as multi slider or four-way stamping, is a technology that is more suitable for processing complex bending and twisting parts. It uses four sliding tools instead of a vertical slider to shape the workpiece through repeated deformation. Two sliders or sliding blocks collide with the workpiece to stop forming, without using the mold. Multiple slider stamping can also have more than four moving sliders.
Four slider stamping is a very common type of stamping, as each slider can be equipped with different tools. It also has relatively low costs and a fast consumption rate.
Fine punching
Fine punching, also known as fine edge blanking, is valuable in providing high-precision and lubricated edges. Usually completed on hydraulic or mechanical presses, or through a combination of both, the precision punching operation consists of three different movements:
1. Clamp the workpiece or workpiece data in place
2. Performance of material dropping operation
3. Ejection of scrap parts
Precision metal stamping machines operate under higher pressures than those used in traditional stamping operations, so it is necessary to consider these higher operating pressures when designing tools and machinery.
The edges generated by precision cutting prevent fractures caused by traditional tools, and the surface flatness may exceed that of other stamping methods. Due to its cold extrusion technology, precision punching is a one-step process that reduces the overall cost of manufacturing.
